SELAS Open 2022

Judge Mr Antonio Skaboullos

I would like to say a big Thank You to SELAS committee for inviting me to judge their breed club show and for honouring the appointment when lockdown forced shows to stop for 2 years.

And a special thank you to all the exhibitors who entered under me and allowed me to judge their dogs.

Lhasas are a breed close to my heart having owned them over the years. I was really impressed with the overall quality. I think the breed has improved a lot with better fronts and straighter forelegs. Mouths seem to be improving and light eyes were virtually non existent.

Puppy dog (2)

1. Gillman's Aintshe Permission To Fly At Mytilene

11 month old black/white parti, great shape and not too heavy. Correct head with strong jaw, good dentition, dark eye. Adequate neck, well laid shoulders, straight front, deep chest and well ribbed. Jaunty mover. Loved his attitude and he should do very well with his current qualities. BPD & BPIS

2. Bell & Ellis' Vallena Mekhanic

11 month gold/white, another cracking youngster. Great head, liked his size and substance, mature for age. Profuse coat in excellent condition, well ribbed back. Big feet and well proportioned. Could easily change places.

Post Graduate dog (3,1)

1. Willliam's Chtaura Shadow Man

Black, loved his substance, rugged but not overdone, could definitely survive in his homeland with his deep chest and well rounded ribs giving him heart and lung capacity. Nice length to loin and excellent angulation both ends. Great expression, dark eye and good strength to foreface.

2. Connett & Clutterbuck's Kutani Daredevil

Very showy boy in beautiful condition and presented to perfection. Excellent for size and proportions, very confident and sassy, excelled on the move with good drive, rear conformation spot on. I just preferred the more robust build of class winner but I'm certain this young man will do very well.

Limit dog (2)

1. Reynold's Petwalk Kit-N-Caboodle

Striking white/gold boy who oozes quality. Lovely profile, well proportioned, good neck, excellent shoulder placement, straight front. Profuse coat in excellent condition, big feet. Expertly handled.

2. Bromley's Jardene Diamond Geezer

Gold/white, lighter framed than 1. Good topline and nice size, moderately proportioned. A little light in eye and would prefer a straighter front profile. Moved ok

Open dog (3)

1. Saunders CH Bellellen Double Ducie JW

Outstanding black who instantly caught my eye. Excels in shape, size and substance and loved his attitude. Excellent depth to chest and elbows tight to body, strong neck carrying a masculine head, dark eye, great expression. Beautifully constructed, low set hocks, profuse coat. Jaunty attitude on the move, presented to perfection. BD & RBIS

Another cracker. Excellent conformation with no exaggeration. Great rear action and good drive. Good height/length ratio. Correct topline which he kept on the move, hight set tail. Another with deep chest and ribbed well back. Sturdy and honest. Well presented in full coat. RBD

Puppy bitch (1,1)

1. Wiehe's Khinjan Waltzing Matilda

11 months, such a happy girl, didn't stop wagging the whole time! Lovely shape and size, feminine, well coated for her age. Excellent front placement, exuberant movement, big feet. Nothing exaggerated with this little lady, a true honest lhasa. BPB

Junior bitch (3,1)

1. Corroll's Too Hot To Handle

Lovely gold/white bitch. Perfect outline standing with good neck length and high set tail. Loved her front assembly with great angulation to her shoulders and excellent body length. Low hocks, fluid movement and well conditioned.

2. Adam-Slomkowski's Cococabana Lhamco Laco At Skylax (imp pol)

12 month gold/white, a little out of coat. Nice size with a pretty head, adequate neck and I like her rear construction but would prefer a better front. Needs time to mature.

Limit bitch (2)

1. Chamber's Kutani Enigma

2. Saunders' Montrabella Limit Addition For Bellellen

Overall very nicely made with good depth to chest, tight elbows and well ribbed back, good length to loin. Coat in excellent condition and well handled.

Open bitch (5,2)

1. Horne's Lippylou's Doolally With Chanceinn JW ShCEx OSW

My notes say "this little black girl would be at home at the top of a mountain chasing goats!"

What I would call an "old fashioned" lhasa. Well rounded ribcage, excellent rear construction, well laid shoulders. Feminine yet strong head with dark eye, good dentition and a resolute expression.  Nothing exaggerated about this lady, classic yet still super elegant. Profuse coat in great condition. Moves with effortless stride. It shows you don't have to sacrifice essential breed characteristics for glamour as she has both.

BB & BIS

2. Hazelhurst's Elleonia What About Me

Excellent size, well bodied and good muscle tone. Impeccable coat in excellent condition and correct texture. Lovely profile, excellent front placement. Loved her sturdiness similar to class winner and another that has functionality and class.
