Bath Championship Show 2022

Firstly I would like to thank everyone for their entry, and to my two hard working stewards who kept everything running smoothly.

For me it was the males that stood out today with some handsome, strong ones coming through for the future of the breed. Heads need a careful check, a longer muzzle seems to be getting the norm which is changing the shape of the head. I can understand judges being confused, but for me I went on the expression of the dog more than being pedantic about bite. You have to judge the dog as whole, a well constructed, sound Lhasa with correct movement is a joy to behold. But I would like to see breeders bringing the heads back to the standard. Fronts on the whole were so good, great to see, and hocks have improved enormously giving the drive without kick up. I have seen some critiques mention showing full pad as a positive, but this is not desirable.

DOGS
Puppy

1st O’Doherty’s Autumnspell NOW YOU SEE ME
Stunning male catches the eye immediately. Perfect outline and balance Excelled in shoulder and upper arm placement with excellent rear angles. Stright fore legs well tucked under the body. Extremely well ribbed back giving plenty of heart room. Loved his expression, wonderful attitude on the move, he owned the ring. Will have a bright future Res CC and an amazing Puppy Group 2

2nd Harris’ Vonstry TRYING AGAIN
Nicely balanced pup, good shoulders, level top line, good bite. He moved steady and true

Junior
1st Barnet & Carter’s CORROLLS PIMP MY RIDE AMONG ALAMIKS
Super shape boy with good style, looked a picture stacked but just lost a bit on the move. Very nice expression, good angles fore and aft. At this stage he is typical of a junior male and has a lot to like about him. Can see a bright future ahead. In good coat and expertly handled

2nd Harris’ VONSTRY MR SUNSHINE
A very nice youngster and oh so naughty. Good balance complimented with good tail set. Nice expression, good neck into well balanced front assembly

3rd Adam-Slomkowski’s KENTWONE DEREK JEWEL BY SKYLAX

Yearling
1st Hazelhurst’s CORROLLS EASY RIDER
This boy was such a surprise. So familiar in his expression to me, the most beautiful of heads, super expression, excellent front assembly, level top line, good set to tail, in great condition. Good reach and drive which carried him effortlessly round the ring. A touch long in loin at this stage but carried it well and am sure with maturity will be the perfect picture, one to watch.

2nd Walker & Hattrell’s PETWALK HE’S A CRACKER AT KHINJAN
Smaller type than 1st, in superb coat and conditioning. Nicely balanced throughout, not giving his all on the move today

3rd Birkett’s SIFRASONS TAKE IT EASY

Novice
1
st Ogden’s ABSOSENGKYE RE LIGHT MY FIRE
Good balance to this boy, very masculine which I like, level top line, front could be better but on the move he holds it together if a little sluggish

2nd Birkett’s SIFRASONS TAKE IT EASY
Nicely balanced boy, moved ok, has a good bite

PG
1st Lightfoot’s DARDANELLES PRIME SUSPECT FOR TELSHOTBRIAR
Macsuline boy standing alone. The very best of shoulders/upper arm, extremely well ribbed back, short compact loin, good tail set, mouth could be better. Moved well but feel he was one of the ones that could do with a lot less coat

Limit
1st Reynold’s PETWALK KIT-N-CABOODLE
Have judged this dog before in puppy and didn't do particularly well for him. Today was a different story as he has matured into a lovely representation of the breed. Fabulous balance, great outline, level top line, super tail set. Excelled in shoulder and upper arm and rear matching angles. Superbly presented with the most amazing coat but in my opinion perhaps too much coat. Moved correctly but just wish there was more enthusiasm. A credit to his owner

2nd Hemsley’s TAEMARUS NEVERENDING STORY
Nicely balanced dog with a good front, excellent top line and tail set

3rd Sutcliffe’s NEWCLIFFE KIA ORA jw

Open
T
wo lovely boys in this class both worthy of the ticket. Both moved out strongly with good front extension and rear drive, both had good angles front and rear, both owned the ring.
1st had that ‘look at me’ which is so magnetic, he covered the ground with ease and showmanship. His presentation is first class although I think too much coat hides his super outline. He has a super strong body, right in any way you looked at it. Over the moon to see him go Group 3

1st Connett’s KHIJAN VALENTINO WITH ORCAVOE
2nd Barnett & Carter’s BELAZIETH SUNDANCE KID WITH ALAMIKS jw
Lacking in body today which I was told is due to bitches in season at home

BITCHES
Veteran
1st Scarll & Sykes CH TIMAZINTI LIBERTY
What more can be said about this amazing Lhasa, favourite of mine, 11yrs old and still in tip top condition. All her teeth still present. Beautiful in every way, standing and on the move, a superb veteran BV and delighted to see she won Veteran Group 2

2nd Hemsley’s MAEMARUS MOET
Another lovely girl belying her age. In fantastic coat and condition and glides round the ring

MP
1st Devereux HEIDIFLIC’S SIMPLY THE BEST
6 month old baby, nice head, good mouth and moved well. Needs to balance up which will come with age, at the moment a real in-between stage.

Junior
1st Hattrell’s CORROLLS LORIQUE AT KHINJAN
Black girl I have watched from the ringside and she has never really appealed but what a change today. She has matured into a lovely Lhasa, super neck into well laid shoulder and good upper arm, tucked in elbows, straight fore legs, good spring to rib, short strong loin, excellent bend to stifle, straight hocks, all this giving her eye catching movement. Would take her home, must have the brightest of futures. Res CC

2nd Hemsley’s JALUS ALAYSHA AT TAEMARUS
Rangier than 1st but a lot to like about her, beautifully balanced, excellent front assembly and matching rear angles. Loved her scope on the move, lovely to watch.

3rd Barnett & Carter’s ALAMIKS PERFECT ILLUSION

Limit
1st White’s BOBELLAM’S BUBBLING OVER
What can I say about this girl. Have seen her in the ring and admired her movement. What a lovely surprise to get my hands on her. Didnt think her head would appeal but how wrong was I. Loved her head proportions which gave her a gorgeous expression. So well balanced giving a really lovely outline which she held on the move. Effortless movement, spot on. Delighted to give her her crowning CC. Very close call for BOB but just felt the dog had the edge for the big ring
2nd Scarll & Sykes LOBGSDALES POP MY CORK WITH TIMIZINTI
Gold girl longer cast than 1st. Most gorgeous expression, snooty typical Lhasa, a little unsettled today on the move. I fantastic coat and condition.

Open
1st Davis’ TIMIZINTI’S MILLIE MAE AT NARMOAK

Beautiful gold girl in fabulous coat. Have done well for her before. Love her overall outline and balance, excellent tail set, excellent front and rear, has all the qualities of a champion but today just didn’t have enough drive on the move, change of handler may have added to her lack of enthusiasm.
