SELAS Championship Show 2021

Judge: Jo House

My thanks to SELAS committee for inviting me to judge their 29th Championship show. We all know how difficult life has been due to the pandemic & I’m sure the hard work behind the scenes of a society, at times, add to the stresses of life but I would like to express my gratitude to you all for getting the show up and running again. It was an absolute pleasure to go over all those who entered and I thank the exhibitors for their efforts. How wonderful it is to finally get back to the hobby we all enjoy with our much-loved dog’s & seeing dog show friends again. I hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as I did. I must also thank my 2 stewards who ensured the smooth running of the classes & for incorporating the extra covid procedures to keep everyone safe & well.

The main winners were;

BIS DCC Bell & Ellis Vallena Viktor

RBIS BCC Bell & Ellis Vallena Jhoni

BPIS Walker Petwalk He’s A Cracker

BVIS Torrence Sinyul Solitaire

MPD (3,1) 2 raw boy’s, both a little unsettled.
1st Walker Petwalk He’s A Cracker. Well balanced & in good coat already. Good proportioned head with dark pigment, lovely eye shape & good mouth. Better front action out of the 2 at this stage. Moved well enough in the class although a little overwhelmed, but understandable. He went on to take Best Puppy In Show & I’m sure will have a bright future.
2nd Hall Shenedene World Trader. Another challenging baby, but again, I'm sure things will come together in no time. G/W in good coat. Strong dark pigment & sweat expression. Good reach of neck & good sternum. Nice typical shape.

PD (1,0)
1st Ogden Absosengkye Re Light My Fire. Beautiful coat & texture. Well-proportioned head, good mouth. Would like stronger pigment. Unsettled on the move. Strong rear action.

JD (5,1)
1st Horne Chanceinns Psychotic. Black with white flashes. Nice size & balance. Beautiful expression, with correct shaped eye. Head of correct proportions topped off with a strong chin, so good to see this. Strong sternum flowing into good length & depth of rib. Moved well. Nice promising youngster.
2nd Lightfoot Dardanelles Prime Suspect for Telshotbriar. Gold in good coat. Larger, more challenging youngster. Nice head & expression. Very striking on the move, holding his shape & level top line.
3rd Hemsley, Taemarus Marsden

YD (4,2) Although only 2 in the class, both of high quality.
1st Connett & Clutterbuck, Kutani Daredevil. Nice size male, masculine without coarseness. Pleasing head & expression with dark pigment. Loved his silhouette stacked & on the move keeping a level top line. Well-developed sternum & well ribbed up. Good front assembly & strong rear quarters. So well presented & handled.
2nd Logan, Spyanki The Riddler. Taller male in good coat of correct texture. Dark eye & pigment. Nice arched neck into level top line. Looking a little flat on the move but as it’s the 2nd show of the day, perhaps that’s why? Quality dog to go over, just not his day.

ND (6,1)
1st Logan Spyanki The Riddler
2nd Tightfoot, Dardanelles Prime Suspect for Telshotbriar

GD (2,0)
1st Williams Shigatse Jackson. Good nose pigment but would like to see a darker eye. Moved well & soundly. A little more body weight needed. Coat at that in between stage but of good texture.
2nd Scales, Zentarr Osbourne. Correct textured gold. Sweat expression. A little narrow throughout. Showed well.

PGD (5,0)
1st Williams, Chtaura Shadow Man. typical ‘old fashioned’ coat, still waiting for the finishing touches. Best of heads in the class along with shoulders & front. Good shaped eye & dark pigment. Nice size, shape & balance.
2nd Owen, Viewtop Mistic Black Knight at Gatchinyo. Another black, again waiting for the finishing touches to his jacket. Excellent spring & depth of rib. In good hard condition. Nice size with level top line.
3rd Hemsley, Taemarus Neverending Story JW

LD (9,2) 1 & 2 different in type, but loved them both. Great to have high quality in this class.
1st Bell & Ellis, Vallena Viktor. Gold & white exquisite coat. Everything about him is Apso. Nothing exaggerated and perfectly proportioned. When you put your hands on him, they flow to every point because he is made so well. Wonderful to watch on the move from every angle. DCC & BIS. The 1st of many I’m sure.
2nd Hall, Shenedene Secret Agent. Beautiful gold coat & presented in top condition. Much of the above applies to 2nd as well. Not quite as good in front as 1 but still a high-quality masculine dog, worthy of high awards. This is really nit picking at small points but this is what happens when you have 2 quality dogs meeting in the same class.
3rd Barnett & Carter, Belazieth Sundance Kid with Alamiks JW

OD (3,0)
1
st Saunders, Bellellen Double Ducie JW Grey in top condition. Beautiful clean lines to his typical Apso outline. There’s no need for pushing or pulling him into shape, he is as he should be. Loved his head & expression along with his strong chin which just sets it off. Moved well holding his shape at all times. RCC. Not an easy decision between CC & RCC but the lay of shoulder on the CC winner was a little better, but it’s splitting hairs.
2nd Clutterbuck, Kutani Shockwave. Gold, with correct coat texture & looking the finished picture. Nice head, would prefer stronger nose pigment. Nicely made throughout & moved well.
3rd Logan, Spyanki Oh Happy Day JW ShCM ShCEx

Champion Dog (2,1)
1st Cain, Ch Sandauri Showstopper for Kutani (Imp Rus). Gold in good condition. Eye catching stacked & on the move. Looks a lovely picture when moving around the ring. Nice head, good mouth & pigment. Long arched neck into good shoulders. Ribs of good length & depth.

Vet Dog (1,0)
1st Logan, Spyanki Oh Happy Day Jw ShCM ShCEx. 7 year young & looking very strong & fit. Sweat expression. Nice shape to him, level top line & moving well.

MPB (4,1) 3 very nice & promising babies.
1st Hall, Shenedene Out of Miss World. Gold & already in good coat. Nice head & mouth. Best of shoulders & front in the class. Moved well. BPB
2nd Horne, Chanceinns Miss Damena. Loved the expression of this little black pup. Not quite as much reach on the front as 1, but a quality bitch none the less, full of promise for the future.
3rd Olive, Mytilene Capri

PB (2,1)
1st Taylor & Johnson, Sifrasons Pandora. Just the 1 in this class, a little lacking in confidence today but didn’t drop her tail so positives to go forward with. Already in good coat & very striking red with black tips. Good dark pigment, eye shape & mouth. She has a narrower build to her. Nice shape & tail set.

JB (6,2) Not much between 1 & 2 although different in types.
1st Walker, Petwalk Simply Irresistible (KCJ). Gold with white flash. Nice size & balance with the sweetest expression. In good coat of correct texture. Nice mover with the best of front action in this class.
2nd Gillman, Bellellen Delicious Diva with Mytilene. Full coated black. Beautiful head & expression & good mouth. Good strong sternum, correct rib shape, length & depth. Keep her top line at all times. Showed well.
3rd Horne, Chanceinns Doolally Tap.

YB(1,0)
1
st Chambers, Kutani Enigma. Stood alone in this class but a worthy winner. Quality & striking feminine bitch. Strong pigment & good mouth. Would like more sternum & depth of rib but good length. In good coat, looked a picture on the move with good front & rear action.

GB(3,1)
1
st Gillman, Bellellen Delicious Diva
2nd Owen, Gatchinyo Dottie-Dot. Another black with a lovely expression. Moved well in front. Nice size & level top line which she held on the move.

PGB (4,1) 3 quality black and whites.
1st Bell & Ellis, Vallena Jhoni. So much to love about this bitch. Beautiful clean lines to her typical silhouette. Pretty, feminine expression & correct mouth. Strong arched neck into excellent lay of shoulder. Well ribbed up. Strong loin & hindquarters. Looks super on the move owning the ring. BCC. The first of many I’m sure.
2nd Clutterbuck & Cain, Kutani Showoff. Much of the above applies here. Really nit picking between 1 & 2. I found 1 to have a better lay of shoulder & front. I wouldn’t want people to read this and feel she has a bad lay of shoulder and front – she doesn’t. It really does come down to marginal details. RBCC form a quality bitch challenge.
3rd Carrick, Deelayne Felicity

LB (4,1)
1st Horne, Lippylous Doolally with Chanceinn JW. Black with a good jacket. Nice shape but it can get a little lost in all her coat. Nicely proportioned head. Strong arched neck & level top line. Fabulous ribs with correct depth & length. Best of fronts in this class. Moved well. Would just like a little less weight on her.
2nd Saunders, Montrabella Limit Addition for Bellellen. Really beautiful, feminine expression & nicely proportioned head. Would like to see a darker nose pigment. Gold of correct texture. Moved well & looked a picture in profile.
3rdTaylor & Johnson, Kokomo The Look of Love at Safrason (Imp NDL)

OB (6,0) High quality class but not all these ladies wanted to co-operate today
1st Hazelhurst, Elleonia What About Me. Black/grey beautifully turned out. Such an elegant bitch with clean lines to her typical outline. Gorgeous head & expression with strong pigment & perfect eyes. Good length of neck & good shoulders. Solid top line, moved well with good action front & back. Nice size, just a little longer in body than the main winners.
2nd Hattrell, Ch Khinjan Bellisima JW. Another elegant, feminine bitch. Stands out from the crowd stacked & on the move. Beautiful expression, very nice to go over & in good condition.
3rd Cain, Pol Ch Magic Rainbow Astarte Gold

VB (2,1)
1
st Torrance, Sinyul Solitaire. Black, 8 years young. Such a pretty expression, well-proportioned head. Lovely shape & balance. Nicely made throughout. Showed so well with no signs of being a veteran. BVIS
